Grow with referral partners (101)
Referral partners are people or organisations who promote your events to their own audiences. When someone joins TimbaTicket through their link and starts selling tickets, the partner earns a commission. This article covers the when and why — for the technical setup, see Referral partners.
When referral partners make sense
Referral partners are most useful when:
- You have a limited reach but know people whose audiences overlap with yours (dance instructors, community leaders, fitness coaches).
- You're launching a new event series and want to tap into an existing community instead of building one from scratch.
- You're on Grow or Pro — the platform's referral programme is designed for organisers who have outgrown the free tier and want to grow without spending on ads.
Referral partners are not useful when you already have a large mailing list or social following and the cost of managing a partner relationship outweighs the benefit.
How the commission works
The platform's referral programme is built around TimbaTicket's own revenue from the referred organisation, not the organisation's ticket sales:
- Per-ticket platform fee: the partner earns a percentage of the actual Square app fee that TimbaTicket receives on each paid order. This is the real, verified component.
- Monthly subscription: if the referred organisation is on a paid plan (Grow or Pro), the partner also earns a share of the subscription fee. This figure is estimated (the platform doesn't locally record each subscription charge).
The commission rate and duration (how many months it lasts) are set when the partner is added. Commission starts counting from the moment the referred organisation generates its first confirmed revenue — not from the signup date, so an organisation that signs up but sits idle doesn't burn the partner's earning window before any money moves.
What the partner dashboard shows
Partners see their earnings in the Referral Partner Portal (/referrals):
- Total revenue generated — the actual TimbaTicket revenue from their referred organisations.
- Total commission earned — the partner's percentage cut.
- Period breakdown — monthly view of revenue and commission per organisation.
- Paid vs owed — how much has been paid out and how much is still pending.
This is all computed from real data on every console view of a partner's dashboard — no caching, no stale numbers.
How to recruit partners
Good referral partners are people who already talk to your potential audience:
- Dance or fitness instructors who teach classes your events complement.
- Community group admins (Facebook groups, WhatsApp communities, local clubs).
- Bloggers or local event aggregators who list events in your area.
- Other organisers whose events don't compete with yours.
The pitch is simple: "Promote my events to your audience, earn a commission on every new organiser who joins through your link."
What the partner needs to do
Once recruited, the partner:
- Signs up for a TimbaTicket account (if they don't already have one).
- Gets added as a referral partner in Settings → Referral Partners.
- Shares their unique link — anyone who signs up through it is tracked to them.
- Earns commission automatically when the referred organisation starts generating revenue.
The partner doesn't need to manage events, process tickets, or handle payments — they just promote.
